BEIJING Nathan Shepherd Jersey , Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The last-minute change to China's submission for the 2016 Academy Awards best foreign language film award was because "Wolf Totem" did not meet the proper requirements.
According to a report by China Film News, Oscars organizers notified the Chinese film regulator that the ratio of Chinese nationals among the creative staff of "Wolf Totem" was too few and did not meet eligibility rules.
A co-production between China and France, the film has a wide range of international participation, involving French director Jean-Jacques Annaud and American movie music composer James Horner among others.
A special rule for the foreign language film award says that "the submitting country must certify that creative control of the motion picture was largely in the hands of citizens or residents of that country."
Before the final announcement, "Wolf Totem" was a highly likely contender. It beat acclaimed filmmaker Jia Zhangke's "Mountains May Depart".
"Wolf Totem" was replaced by "Go Away Mr. Tumor", a romantic comedy telling how an optimistic woman copes with cancer. It took more than 500 million yuan of box office in China.
The last Chinese submission to be named an official nominee by the Academy was "Hero," directed by Zhang Yimou, in 2003.
HANGZHOU, China, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese women's basketball team recorded a second staright win over their Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) rival Venezuela at 73-58 during a three-game warmup series here on Friday.
Venezuela once shortened the gap to three points after the final 12 minutes began, their smallest deficit in the second half, while China got the game back with solid performance on free-throw and three-pointer shooting line.
Sun Mengxin and Gao Song shared a team-high 13 points. Wu Di added 11.
"Venezuela played very well, so credit to them," said China's head coach Thomas Maher, "We made some mistakes that should not be made at this level."
Maher made one change in the starting line-up as Zhao Zhifang was introduced as a starter. Zhao, the hosts' "new blood" in a list released late in January, showed her confidence in offensive end. She had five points in a row early in the first quarter, including a three-point play. The Chinese team built a double-digit lead on Wu Di's jumper, forcing the Venezuelan team into a timeout. China led by 23-12 as the opening period expired.
Sun Mengxin's second-chance shot at the buzzer gave China a 37-24 lead into the locker room. They outrebounded at 24-14, and forced the opponents into 12 turnovers in the first half.
Venezuela cut the deficit to eight points midway through the third quarter, before being responded by China with a 6-0 run, capped by captain Lu Wen's layup. After the timeout, the visitors took on a fresh look in offense on Waleska Perez's jumper and Yvaney Marquez's layup, while the advantage is still in China's hand after Gao Song finished a three-point play.
The visitors made a strong comeback and set the score at 55-52 with an 8-0 spurt in a three-minute span, including Marquez's four-point play. China did better in attacking the paint, when Chen Nan and Lu Wen converted all four free throws into points. Sun Mengxin's two 3-pointers gave the hosts a huge boost in offense, and China sealed the win with a 13-point advantage in hand in the last minute.
Roselis Silva finished with a game-high 19 points, four assists and four steals. Perez helped with 18 points.
"We showed a good defense today. What we have learned from last game helped us a lot in our defense. Chinese players are very tall, which poses much threat to us, but our players played very hard," commented Oscar Silva, Venezuela's head coach.
The third game of the series will be held on Sunday.
Novak Djokovic began the fightback and Janko Tipsarevic completed the job as Serbia overturned a 2-1 deficit against Canada in the Davis Cup semi-final on Sunday.
In scenes reminiscent of their 2010 triumph in the same arena, world number one Djokovic beat big-serving Milos Raonic 7-6(1) 6-2 6-2 before Tipsarevic kept his nerve to beat Vasek Pospisil 7-6(3) 6-2 7-6(6) in the deciding singles.
Serbia's 3-2 win means they can now look forward to a home final against the Czech Republic but it was heartbreak for Canada who were looking to reach the final for the first time.
Djokovic was ruthless as he brushed aside 11th-ranked Raonic in front of a partisan 15,000 home crowd but Tipsarevic had some anxious moments against Pospisil who needed medical treatment for a sore elbow in the opening set.
Thriving in the same kind of fervent home support which helped Serbia win the title for the first time against France three years ago, Djokovic was a class apart on the indoor clay.
"Winning the 2010 trophy was an inspiration to all of us to excel the following season on the ATP Tour and that's why it has a very special place in my heart," an emotional Djokovic told a news conference ahead of Tipsarevic's calsh with Pospisil.
"I've won a number of grand slams but nothing compares to sharing the joy of victory with your team mates, who are there for you and cheer on every shot you take on the court."
"I think I played two outstanding matches given that I had to make a rapid change of time zones and surfaces (after the U.S. Open final defeat to Rafael Nadal in New York on Monday).
"The home crowd support carried me to victory."
Djokovic and Raonic traded breaks in the opening set before Djokovic, who dominated the rallies while Raonic used the slick red clay to good effect on his first serve, raced through the tiebreak and delighted the home fans in the Kombank Arena.
The electrifying atmosphere reached fever pitch when Djokovic saved a triple break point to take a 3-1 lead in the second set, pumping his fists in delight as he t. http://www.wholesalenbacheapjerseys.com/ Wholesale Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys China Wholesale Custom Baseball Jerseys Wholesale Authentic NHL Jerseys Wholesale New NBA Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap College Baseball Jerseys Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys |
